{Take the 100 Things challenge!}

Grabbed from [livejournal.com profile] karaokegal

My list is going to be 100 books I've read and my opinions and memories of them. It's going to be a grab bag of everything from children's books to adulthood.

EDIT: A series/multiple series set in the same universe counts as one item. I did this after going through and realizing one of my manga series would take up almost a quarter of the numbering without having anything really to show for it, as it's one continuous story line. After remaking a partial list with grouping books in series together, I am still at 43 items.

1-Going Bovine by Libba Bray
2-Beauty Queens by Libba Bray
3-Gemma Doyle trilogy by Libba Bray
4-Catch-22 by Joseph Heller
5-The Princess Bride by William Goldman
6-The Man Who Loved Books Too Much by Allison Hoover Bartlett
7-The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky

Rating: PG-13
Wordcount: 1433 words
Warnings: No warnings.
Notes: Thank you so much to alonglineofbread and BaronessKika for being awesome betas, and giving me insight on the world of getting tattoos and getting drunk; one of which I hope to get in September and the other hopefully never; and whiskeysnarker for being willing to discuss my version of Everlark with me, and how they're a good thing to have in the fic world. Also, I apologize to my followers who had to witness falafelwaffel and I yelling back and forth at each other in comments on Tumblr before I posted this.

Title: Pivot
Author: Book_Junkie007
Pairing: Katniss/Peeta
Rating: M
Wordcount: 595 words
Warnings: No warnings. Smut ahead.
Notes: This fic is based off of this pic of a roller derby Katniss and Peeta. It's kind of turned into a thing, where I'm writing a whole story for it. Thanks to ALongLineOfBread on Tumblr for drawing the pic which started this whole thing, giving me permission to use her drawings as the basis for fic, and betaing this fic. <3

Summary: Pure derby smut, featuring Peeta and Katniss.

So, it turns out that the next thing I'll write is a Hunger Games roller derby!AU, not the Firefly fic or the Bruce/Natasha fic that I've been working on since last summer (I will finish editing it, I swear!). I've written a 600 word smut piece and 650 words of backstory all in the past two days, on my phone, while on public transit and on my breaks at work. The last time I was even close to this amount of fic writing was for my Torchwood 17 000+ word baby last year, and even then I stalled at certain points. I'm looking forward to exploring this 'verse. :)

These are my tweeted thoughts about MD, all compiled into one text post.

Rewatching Torchwood: Miracle Day, for the first time in a couple years, and (unpopular opinion) it may be brilliant. Think about it: even though Torchwood was all about the aliens, it's what human beings can do to each other willfully which is most scary. And Torchwood: Miracle Day kind of highlights that, in my opinion, much like Children of the Earth. Yes, there's uneven pacing at times, & the story suffers from plot holes, but what Torchwood ep doesn't? It's almost expected at this point. I'm kind of excited to watch the rest of Torchwood: Miracle Day and figure out more thinky thoughts. :)

I'm idly looking at the requirements for a BA in Modern Languages (French) in the UK even though I almost failed out of my science uni courses. And one year's worth of tuition for an international student at Oxford is the equivalent of all three years of tuition at my Canadian uni.

I still really want to do it though. I love learning, and am really smart, I just hate studying and get really bored and have a really short attention span while trying to study, but it might be different if I was learning something different. I wouldn't even use this degree, I don't think, as I have a job which pays really well. This would really be a "I felt like learning this" degree without it ever really benefitting me.

I'm just not sure how well I would do at the whole writing papers aspect. Oh, well, it's something to think about, especially as I'm thinking about setting up camp in the UK for the next two to five years, maybe even longer.

Finally got my writing mojo back, so the first thing I do is decide to tear apart the Bruce/Natasha fic that I wrote last summer and start fresh. I'm now wondering how closely I should follow the original draft, now that I have a better theme and something that I think will work for this fic without it being overly clunky. I need to give better backstory to things, and flesh out the relationships more, but I think that overall this new fic will work better than the old one did. Inkvoices may have a completely new fic to read over by the time I'm done fixing this fic, oops.

Title: First Meetings Only Happen Twice (Or More)
A Gift For: [livejournal.com profile] lizardbeth_j
Rating: PG
Warnings: Mild references to violence
Pairings: Clint, Natasha (can be read as gen or relationship implied); Clint-centric
Summary/Prompt Used: Written for [livejournal.com profile] be_compromised’s Secret Santa 2012. I’m only now posting it to my journal. The last few months have only been slightly chaotic.

This is sort of a combination of mission and first time prompts, but it also morphed into something that I didn’t expect. I hope you like where I went with this.
Authors Notes: Many thanks to my beta, [livejournal.com profile] inkvoices, who gave me important feedback. Also thanks to this bar, both for being patient with me, and for being so awesome.

Just received confirmation that Hawkeye: Volume 1 is being shipped to me! The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society came on Monday. There will be lots of book love in my mail. :D

Hawkeye: Volume 1 is also sold out at the Chapters/Coles/Indigo website, which is impressive when you consider the fact that it's the main chain of bookstores across Canada. I'm glad I pre-ordered it when I did. I don't know if Marvel knew it was going to be this popular, or if it was just a thought of "keep the first printing small because we don't know how successful this will be." I also couldn't find Hawkeye issue 1 in the comic book stores about a week after it was released, which disappointed me, but may have been a clue as to how popular and anticipated this series was.

Hey, look, I've reached #7! \0/

I just finished this one today, and it already holds a special place in my heart. It's one of the few books I would take as a physical copy with me to England (the others are Going Bovine and Beauty Queens by Libba Bray and the Princess Bride by William Goldman).

Have the movie trailer because the movie is close enough to the book )

I just finished rewatching the pilot ep of Firefly, so I'm feeling confident about starting my story. Would someone be willing to beta for me? It's the life of Zoe Washburne, and it will be 5000 words, minimum. If you could let me know, that would be great.
book_junkie007: (Default)
So I signed up for [livejournal.com profile] heroinebigbang, and I'm quite excited. A mini bang is 5000 words, and a full bang is 15 000 words minimum, and the only rule is that it has to be a main female character. I've decided to write about the life of Zoe Washburne from Firefly, and I'm quite excited at the length of my rough outline. Although to be fair, my Torchwood fic outline was way shorter initially, and it turned out to be over 17 000 words. We'll see how this goes.
book_junkie007: (Default)
So, I think I have an idea for [livejournal.com profile] heroinebigbang: the life of Zoe Washburn from childhood up to Serenity and beyond. I just have to see if I can brainstorm more ideas for this than the tentative summary. I have no idea how long it will be, but I can easily see it becoming 15 000+ if I put enough detail into it.

I've had a very active muse in the past couple days. It's given me a couple different ideas and I'm thinking of a few more. I kind of want to write a bunch of fics about strong female characters from the books/TV shows/movies I've read/seen and do snapshots into their lives. It doesn't have to be during the canon timeline, but before or after.

But I still have a Bruce/Natasha fic from this summer that I should probably finish going over so I can post it.

I finally have an icon like object which I'm sort of proud of. Gimp reminds me of Flash or something similar almost, and I haven't used Flash in years. I will probably have more in the weeks to come.

I don't own the background pic of Serenity, that comes from , but the foreground pic I took with my iPhone and uploaded to my laptop.
book_junkie007: (Default)
Okay, so I have some questions. I would like to start making icons/gif sets, particularly from Firefly (I just rewatched Out of Gas and I have an urge to icon/gif the whole ep), although other fandoms are taking my fancy as well (hello, Mitchell and Being Human). I'm just wondering how I could get started with it. I downloaded Gimp, because I don't want to spend the money on Photoshop, and I know I would have to get a Photobucket account or something similar in order to upload my photos to the internet.

I don't have a lot of experience with icon making or gif sets. The most high-tech my icons get are screen caps taken by me on my iPhone (because I'm a good little scientist and am terrified of copyright issues and plagiarism) from my DVD, uploaded to my laptop, and adjusted slightly in Preview on my Mac. I haven't done anything more fancy than that, and any help that people could give would be very welcoming.

**WARNING: I ramble around in circles in this post because I'm tired. Hopefully it makes sense.**

So I've been wanting to move to England for two years for a while, and one of my friends decided that she wants to go as well, and we convinced another friend of ours to come with us. It felt like my friends made the decision really easily, but I was struggling with the decision, to the point that I was stressing out about it (between school, work, and this decision, I've chewed my fingernails down to nothing).

My mum and step-dad always try and be the voices of reason for me, and try hard to keep my feet firmly on the ground, as I can be a bit of a dreamer at times. They were the devil's advocate in my head while I was making this decision. I also talked with my trainer at my practicum about the possibility of finding work in England with what I'm doing for my job, and they brought up some really good points as well.

After weighing all the factors, I've made a decision: I'm not moving to England. There's no point in me moving there right now, and I should have gone when I was younger, but I wasn't emotionally mature enough to do so. Right now I just want to settle down into a career here, pay off my student loan by the end of the year, and move out. I feel like I'm ready to do that now, and my friends are still not quite at the wanting to grow up stage. It's weird feeling like I'm the most mature one, because usually I don't.

Still, I want to go back and visit England and the UK for a month in the undefined future, I just don't think I'll ever live there, and that's okay.

Iiiiit's back! I know I've spent way too much time away from this challenge, but RL has slowed down...I think.

Anyway, today's post is The Man Who Loved Books Too Much by Allison Hoover Bartlett, by special request for [livejournal.com profile] inkvoices because she asked me about it and I hadn't finished reading it yet.

Also, I don't have a book trailer for this one. :(

I finally have a rough outline for my Secret Santa fic. Hopefully I'll be able to write my rough draft either tonight or tomorrow, depending on how tired I am from work. Ink voices, if you could be on stand by for beta, that would be fabulous. I am determined to get this fic written.
