Comic Hunting
Jul. 13th, 2012 12:56 amToday I met up with a friend and we spent six hours going through comic book and used book stores as I was looking for Avengers Assemble #5 for the cover, as well as #1-4 to be able to catch up.
I was very successful. I found Avengers Assemble #1-5, albeit at three different stores; a used copy of a Black Widow collection, as I wasn't going to spend $24 on a brand new copy; Hawkeye: Blindspot, simply because I've only seen two Hawkeye books (Hawkeye & Mockingbird: Ghosts and Ultimate Hawkeye) before this; and The Avengers Prelude: Black Widow Strikes, a three part Natasha comic which takes place between Iron Man 2 and Avengers.
If anyone would like, I'll summarize the Avengers prequel and post it here. Clint doesn't appear, but Coulson does, and it might be nice to have more backstory.
Other than the two pages of Clint/Natasha already posted at
be_compromised, there isn't anything else of interest to shippers in #5.
I also would really like to find Hawkeye and Black Widow: Widowmaker. I have Hawkeye & Mockingbird: Ghosts, which is the prequel, and Hawkeye: Blindspot, the sequel, so I would now like to read the middle part of the arc. I found Widowmaker #1 and #4 at the library, but I didn't find #2 or #3. I'd like to read the middle of the story, please! Lol.
EDIT: Also, does anyone know anything about this book:
It's one of a limited print of 700 copies, which makes me leery of taking it out of the plastic. Would it still be worth something if I unwrapped it? I'm careful with my books (except when I dump a stack of comics on the floor trying to save them from being stepped on by my puppy, lol), so it wouldn't get too damaged. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Date: 2012-07-13 09:14 am (UTC)On that note, if you're really interested, Matt Fraction is starting a new Hawkeye series in August. Fraction's X-Men stuff was lackluster, but his work on Iron Man was amazing so I have very high hopes for this.
I looooove Marvel comic books and I'm so excited that some of the movie people are getting into comics. So, if you need anything, let me know.

Date: 2012-07-13 06:48 pm (UTC)I'm interested to read a Hawkeye series. Apparently he can't keep a series going on his own, which makes me sad, yet he's a constant presence in the Avengers comics.
Awesome, thank you!

Date: 2012-07-13 07:46 pm (UTC)So, you've got the issues from the '60's, when Hawkeye first joined, that have him kind of lusting after the Black Widow and her switching to be a good guy because she loves him. Then... they drift apart. Hawkeye and Black Widow haven't really been a couple since then. She's been with Daredevil or Winter Soldier; and he's been either with Mockingbird or lusting after Janet or Wanda. :-/
So, Widowmaker is your best shot of seeing them working together. Otherwise, there's a couple of stories in Secret Avengers where they're on the same team.
Clint's never been able to hold a solo-series, that's true. But the reason is that he has been in more issues of the Avengers than any other character (except Captain America). So... the Avengers kind of is his book.
