Yay for more random ramblings from my mind! I'm sure y'all are completely riveted as to what I'm about to say (or, ya know, not, as the case may be).
This list was brought to my attention because Bones (another show I watch) is on this list as well. Their WTF moment is the week between eps 6.22 and 6.23, which was apparently a one month time lapse, so Brennan can be sure she's pregnant.
I scrolled further into this list, and found Torchwood: Miracle Day (it's popping up everywhere these days, usually not for good reasons). Under the cut is the reasoning for why it's a WTF moment, and the link is to the original article (I've had the fear of plagiarism and bad marks or flunking out of school beaten into me. You can reap the benefits of my thoroughness).
The 12 Most WTF TV Moments of 2011
‘Torchwood: Miracle Day’ – Blood ≠ Immortality(Major SPOILERS)
Torchwood: Miracle Day was a wonderful mini-series that proved to evolve the Torchwood franchise beyond its beginnings on BBC Three… that is until they began to mess with the mythology of Doctor Who.
After Rex Matheson saved the day by replacing his blood with Captain Jack Harkness’ (John Barrowman), the mini-series concluded with the revelation that Matheson was now immortal. The only problem is that’s not how Captain Jack’s immortality works.
Captain Jack’s immortality comes from Rose looking into the heart of the TARDIS and creating a time vortex, which caused Jack to become a constant in time. Captain Jack is the constant… not his blood.
Of course, those familiar with Russel T. Davies' affinity for messing with established logic shouldn't be too surprised - but that still doesn't make it any less WTF.
I think this is the main reason why Miracle Day is hated by so many fans (besides the so-so writing): it messed with the rules of the Whoniverse (Doctor Who, Torchwood, and Sarah Jane Adventures). Once something is established as a fact in canon, it should never be broken (bent is okay, as long as it's set back to normal eventually). By knowingly breaking the rules and not fixing it, the writer breaks the trust of the fans.
I haven't been a part of this fandom for long, but I understand the outrage some of the fans have over the outcome of Miracle Day. My only hope is that Rex's immortality is only temporary, that in 120 days, when his blood cells undergo a complete turn over, he will be mortal again. Otherwise, RTD screwed with mythology which shouldn't have been screwed with. I'm hoping that if a season 5 is a go, the issue of Rex Matheson will be addressed, otherwise it may become a complete fan disservice.
